For many a music film, public life starts at South by Southwest. Not surprisingly, given the annual Austin blowout's roots as a music festival, the cinema side of SXSW always offers a healthy dose of audio-oriented fare, offering a first look at several docs sure to make a mark on the 2010 film fest circuit.

In this two-part post-fest podcast, Andy Markowitz talks to VH1's Warren Cohen and Cinetic Media's Matt Dentler, former head of the South by Southest film program, about this year's crop of music docs (including new films featuring David Byrne, Motorhead's Lemmy, Broken Social Scene, and Stephen Merritt of Magnetic Fields), some breakout bands, and a close encounter with Courtney Love.
